Nikki Robar
CPA, CA, CBV
PARTNER
Our founding partner, Nikki has two decades of business valuation, transaction and financial litigation support experience and is a recognized expert in her field.
Nikki graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a BBA (Hons) in accounting in 1994, obtained her Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) designation with Doane Raymond (now Grant Thornton) in 1996 and worked in a number of different roles, industries and countries before completing her Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation in 2006.
After various roles in the accounting profession, Nikki narrowed her focus when she returned to Canada after 7 years in the Turks & Caicos Islands. Since 2004, Nikki has focused on providing financial and related advice to clients, their legal counsel and others, in matters involving business valuations, commercial litigation support or other financial disputes including economic loss quantification and family law disputes, and advising on the purchase and sale of businesses.
While Nikki has always enjoyed, and taken pride in, a diverse business, over the past 15 years, she has developed a niche within the area of family law, offering an informed and practical approach to assist clients and their counsel through the financial aspects of complex matrimonial dispute issues.
Nikki has prepared expert reports for legal matters across Canada and has provided expert witness testimony in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Alberta with respect to business valuation, income quantification in family law disputes, damages quantification, critique reports and other related matters.
She is an author and speaker on topics including financial acumen in the context of litigation, business valuations, issues around income determination in family law matters and working with financial experts, for organizations including the National Judicial Institute, Federation of Law Societies of Canada, divisions of provincial Canadian Bar Associations and the Schulich School of Law. Nikki also speaks frequently to women’s groups to promote and encourage the development of women in business and has held many board positions, including her current role with the Access to Justice & Law Reform Institute of Nova Scotia.
Nikki’s highest accomplishment and greatest reward is her two young adult sons – both pursuing their CPA designations. As they start their own professional journeys, Nikki has added cats and dogs to the family to keep things interesting. Whether it’s with kids, friends, dogs or all of the above, she loves travel, hiking, great food and taking time to reflect on the goodness of life.
Nikki’s sons will attest that she is guided in life by the philosophy that: You don’t want to look back and know you could have done better.
